Ensuring your Classroom Chromebox and Podium Monitor are on

Summary

All classroom computers contain Chromeboxes. Chromeboxes are not supposed to be switched off; however, sometimes people do switch them off, or they may be off because of a power outage. Podium display monitors should also not be switched off, and sometimes they may get disconnected due to loose cables. This article provides steps to ensure your classroom Chromebox is on, and your podium display monitor is properly connected, if these are not working in your classroom.

Body

The Chromeboxes that IT has deployed to all on-campus classrooms are supposed to remain on at all times, but if the computer in your classroom isn't responding when you try to wake it up by using the mouse or keyboard, it's possible the computer was either shut down or lost power.  Whatever the case, here are some troubleshooting steps to get your Chromebox up and running as quickly as possible:

Chromeboxes are square devices like the one pictured to the left, and are typically either attached to the back of the monitor on top of the lectern, or in a cabinet within the lectern itself.  Look for the tapered corner as indicated in the image: if there is no light, press the power button to turn the device on.

If the Chromebox is on but you aren't getting a picture on the lectern monitor, check and make sure the cables in the back of the monitor are plugged in tightly (they sometimes can come loose as different instructors adjust the monitors to their preference).

If you still aren't getting an image on the monitor or classroom screen/projector, please click on Services on the menu bar at the top of the page and use the Classroom Technology service to submit a ticket to IT.
